okay i get the general consensus regarding combi's but how should the pipe work be flushed because i know unless i insist this is done, it won't. can you just run water through until it runs clear or is there more to it?

washed sand is different to building sand in that that basically the particles are bigger as the fine clay has been washed away. Ask any buliding merchant that you want rendering sand and not building sand and they should stock it. slightly dearer also.
