Cracks in corners of lath and plaster ceiling

Cheers Godwasaplasterer. Is it worth doing any more digging into it or can I put it down to natural settlement etc?

Cracks in corners of lath and plaster ceiling

Hi Guys Just looking for a little advice. We have an end terraced house built in the late 20s/early 30s and are having issues with cracking in the corner of the living room ceiling. As far as I know the ceiling is the original lath and plaster and hasn't been overboarded. Do the attached...

Servowarm-esque installation takes hours to warm up!

Bit of a thread revival I know, but the system is now working correctly. It turns out that the gas valve was blocked so the flame was only around 1" high, when it should have been a lot higher apparently. It's still a bit slow, but the rads get too hot to touch so I'm happy. Cheers for...

    Spur off a spur question

Doesn't even need to be a fused one, as long as it's wired with the same size cable that the ring is wired with, it will be OK.

    Spur off a spur question

Your fitter is right and wrong at the same time. As far as the regs go, you can run as many sockets as you like from the 13A FCU safely, as it is a fused spur, so it is impossible to overload any cables without the fuse blowing. If it was an unfused spur then no, you can't run spurs from...

Zanussi FLE1416W (Aquacycle circa 2002) Bearing change

Just to let everyone know, I changed the bearings today, and the washer is now nearly silent. 8) The shaft did have some corrosion on it, along with the inside of the bearing housing in the tub, but this wasn't where the bearing sits, so I can't see it being too much of a problem. The brass...

    cable

That's a good point about terminations cold welding, and about stranded cable deforming under pressure. Makes sense. And to the guy who said "It was a nightmare to work out what was what" when working on an alarm system wired in telephone cable. Why was that exactly? Because the colours were...

    cable

Sorry fella! That was aimed towards Europlex, not yourself. It's been a long day.. Europlex, go on then, what's the difference? Apart from colour and material? p.s. You've got an answer.

Alarm, you still haven't answered my question.....

    cable

Solid cable doesn't work too well in screw terminals and can snap quite easily. It would work, but isn't recommended, and cause stupid intermittent faults on the system. As for stranded phone cable, aside from the colour differences, I would like to know this too. I thought it would be OK...

    cable

Obviously don't know about this then, do I? So go on then, apart from the colours, twisted pairs (or lack of, as it may be), and whether it's ally or copper, what is the difference between them? I'm genuinely interested now...

Zanussi FLE1416W (Aquacycle circa 2002) Bearing change

Haha, cheers for the replies! Down to the local?? Pah, pigs will fly before I'm allowed down there! I've ordered the 2 bearings, water seal, and tub seal that goes between to 2 halves. Normally I would just get a new machine, but money is tight, the washer is fine apart from the noise, and...

    cable

What exactly is the difference then? I never said phone cable was ideal, but it will work at a push if needed. Obviously the proper CW1308 twisted pair solid cable can't be used for alarms, but what's up with the cheapy general purpose wire that's sold in cheap phone extension kits, or even...

Servowarm-esque installation takes hours to warm up!

Cheers for the ideas guys!. D_Hailsham, I moved into the house a couple of months ago, but I've only started to need the heating this last 2 weeks or so. It has behaved the same all the time I have been here. The regalator valve was stuck on the heating position, so I've had to get the old...
