I need to wire up the CH pump back in to the boiler controller board.
In the schematic, it's plainly laid out as 7(N) 8(E) 9(L)
The bit that is making me doubt myself is the room stat wiring. In the photo there's an earth conductor on #7. Has whoever installed it before we moved in just...
Another update. The programmer gave up.
The CH relay no longer activated when the timer called for heat. Took it apart to get part numbers. Only £5 but everywhere that listed it said obsolete as was the slightly scorched square resistor.
Bought a new Drayton 522 and it was working perfectly...
That's the point, it was working for 25 years or so but no longer does. No power at the pump or room stat so in the meantime, until I find the fault, it will be plugged in to mains socket on a timer.
Right. Small update. Pump was unwired from the boiler and a 3pin plug put on and plugged in. Pump instantly and silently started to whirr. Heat was back in the downstairs rads. The plumbers that came had no idea on the boiler even with the wiring diagram on the case so they rang the...
Thank you. I'll hold off on swapping the room stat for now.
This weekend I'll go round and set up the connector block/wiring as you suggested and take some readings if it fails again.
Got a call from mum this morning.
The heating is back on downstairs. She thinks the house is haunted because the right hand slots on the 4 slice toaster also started working this morning.
At this point I don't even know what to check. Could a pump not work for s week then spring into life or...
I was thinking about that, got some wago blocks somewhere. Was just wary of the plastic spring clips that hold the conductors in place. The pump is at least 20 years old if not more and plastic doesn't fair well in that hot environment. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Thanks.
Ok, had to wait in for a delivery yesterday so didn't get a chance to go to mum's.
Here's the wiring inside the pump. Couldn't find my thinner probes, no idea where they are.
Thanks for the info.
I've left my parents home for today, will be back tomorrow to get more photos. Don't have a non contact sensor but I'll see about finding my thinner multimeter probes to see if they will fit past the sheathing in the pump wiring.
There's wires everywhere in the garage where the boiler and pump is. There's a set of wires that go through the wall in a plastic pipe, under the concrete conservatory floor, under the kitchen floor and up the wall in the breakfast groom into the timer that calls for heat or (used to) hot water...
I did take the lid off the box on the side of the pump but the sheathing on the conductors at so thick that they completely block the probes from my multimeter from getting to the wires etc.
Where does the voltage come from to activate the pump? Direct from the timer box or from the old EKCO...
