Went to clean the fins inside my boiler today and pulled this nasty stuff out of one of them. Only one fin has it. Originally thought it could be tar, but given I'm burning anthracite, I don't believe that to be the case now.

Well, I have to say thank you yet again. I managed to retrieve the piece of metal (attached a photo). Haven't yet taken it all apart due to it being little bit chilly down here this evening, but will do doing it all this weekend. I also removed a fairly substantial amount of baked on clinker...
Interestingly the manual mentions cleaning a secondary air duct. Exchanged a text message with the old owner, they had no idea of this duct, so now it's a job of figuring out how to clean that. I have a suspicion our boiler is about to become a bit more efficient.

Thank you for the very much appreciated reply @Terrywookfit, yes the boiler is lit. I think you're right. The best option is to empty the coal out and see if it's there. I'm not sure of the inner workings or structure enough to know where the vents end up, if that makes sense. Hopefully they...
We recently purchased a house with a Trianco TRG 60 boiler, burning anthracite. A couple of weeks after we moved in, the old owners visited and gave us an overview of the fire, and looking after it.
Jumping to the point here, they advised us to clean these little vents under the flap cover...
