One question - even though the brick and concrete expand the same what do they expand into? This is why i was questioning an expansion gap/joint. As the concrete cures it will shrink slightly so shouldn't be an issue but I'm asking more to satisfy my curiosity really! Thanks for all your help...

Hi, It's too late now any way as I've already broken up a lot of this stuff!!! I'm certain it's fine but thought I'd check - can concrete slabs or concrete edging contain asbestos? It seems unlikely but the interior of the slabs and edging is a blue/black colour that sparkles a bit like quartz...
