Spoke to a really helpful guy at Permavent. He recommends this; http://www.permavent.co.uk/products.eco.html And recommends to fit it between the battens and the weather board i.e. not against the brick. Somthing about thermal gradients etc etc ....

The house is only weatherboarded on tha gable end as it's very exposed to the weather and I'm guessing in the winter damp probably seeped through the brick. I have removed some of the exitsing boarding which has been there many years and there is a membrane/bitchimin paper between the boards...
