    Thanks for clarifying what the various bits are called. Good news that the clunk is nothing to worry about. The valve turns fairly easily - probably about 45 degrees total movement. I'll try your suggested test this evening when I get home. I do have a multimeter and know how to use it.

    Hi Not an uncommon problem - I have heating but no hot water. I have discovered that if I remove the motorised valve and manually turn the little brass bit there is a very loud 'clunk' as the valve changes position. I then get hot water. Is this 'clunk' normal when operating the valve...

    Hot water but no radiators

    I have 240V present when there is demand is for heating and also when there is demand for hot water. This is a new problem - previously the heating would fire up the boiler without the hot water having to be on.
