    Sealing a brick/sand floor

We've laid a brick and sand floor in our new build. Still waiting for it to fully settle. Laid on concrete above full damp proof, so don't worry. So. The question is, we're going to seal it, but are trying to find a seal that won't make the bricks look wet. Anybody got any ideas, please?

Needing advice on a timber step

Hi. I need to make a step. We have an interior brick floor, laid, not yet finished. In front of the door there's a concrete area which I want to cover in a wooden step. The area is 1680*360*25mm Initially I was thinking of ply, but really I guess the answer is hardwood. Am I likely to get a...

    Fireangel mains smoke alarm wiring

Hi. Yes, I have standard add-on bases, with 3 core and earth connectors, for the alarms mounted on beams on the vaulted roof. With them, you terminate the 3+E cables into a block, screw the base on the beam, and the alarm clicks into place, with three pins. (Which adds a lot to the bill, and...

    Fireangel mains smoke alarm wiring

Hi. Wiring in a series of Fireangel smoke alarms using 3 core plus earth. The system wiring diagram says I connect L,N,I (grey wire to comminucate between different units), and Earth. There is a three wired connector cable which connects into the unit itself. By my logic, there's no issue with...

    Building a plaform/Mezzanine, timber, construction

We're at the tail end of a self build, and in the last room to be completed are considering a smallish platform/mezzanine across half the room. The size of the platform will be 3220 across the centre of the room by 2200 deep. I have a 170x77 beam which I'm thinking of putting across the room...

Huston, we have a problem.... Dry ridge system failing repeatedly

OK. Here goes.... We have a newbuild, which has glulam beams along the ridges of the roof. Our builder, or rather our roof builder, decided that the 'best', (I suspect easiest) way to attach beams to the ridge was to cut them and join them to the SIDES of the ridge, like this. When the dry...

    Kitchen sink vent not working

Other basins, toilets, showers run into the main foul water drain. I'll check it out. It's a self build, so the house builder is me.....

    Kitchen sink vent not working

A number of other basins/toilets/showers flow into the main drain. I'll have a go at rodding the waste through. Fingers crossed..... Ah, well, yes. I'ts a self build, so that's basically on me......

    Kitchen sink vent not working

Other basins do flow into the main drain. No soak away, but I'll check the main drains. Nice thought, but I'm the one building the house, so it's effectively on me

    Kitchen sink vent not working

It does have an overflow and it isn't blocked OK. So. It looks like it's in the drain. I didn't remove the pie out of the push fit, but I checked where the drain goes into a manhole in the garden. It is presumably blocked, as it doesn't seem to be running into the main drain. If I have the...

    Kitchen sink vent not working

I'll give that a try. But if the aav is completely removed (and left open) it drains really well. That said, I'll give it a go.

    Kitchen sink vent not working

OK. So. Done that. But. No success. Photos enclosed. Still slow, unless I prop open the tab under the air inlet. Still unsure what's going on.
