Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

i thought about that but thought it might get a bit messy in there? what about adding a small cylinder of tin foil to the end that i can compress against the surface of the boiler?

pretty! home assistant could be a little beyond my capabilities right now...

Unfortunately, there are no cunning gaps I can use, worse luck! And no unused ports...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

smart. I have another TH10 I could use for this. Good for marking the start of a burn, harder to isolate the end maybe? Coud attach sensor to the DHT tank inlet pipe maybe, but it will likely retain heat for quite a while...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

here is my setup using an old Sonoff TH10: I've not found a way to log the temperature yet, but once I've got that sorted I'll spend a couple of weeks logging the temp before changing my heating strategy. My thinking is that I'll cut out the morning heating cycle which runs for an hour...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

Well, I went ahead and did it, and everything seems to be working fine. My only issue now is that I can't work out how to get the temp data into a spreadsheet! I did this years ago but I'll be buggered if I can remember how I did it...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

fun! but perhaps a tad over-ambitious?

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

hmm...that's not a lot is it? yup, just insulated the pipework coming out of the boiler which was naked in our freezing garage. pipes in the tank cupboard are all uninsulated. graphs are BRILLIANT! I feel like I'm being talked out of drilling a hole in my tank, which is a shame, though...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

the whole tank will get heated to 60C every evening understood 1.32KW/24 hours quoted, but without temp readings I don't really know how this will track in real life, or how much this is costing me with my 10 year old boiler.

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

No idea, I didn't think there would be any room in there but I haven't looked. However, it's not the idea spot (see previous comment), but you are right, it would be less risky! See my previous reply to stem's comments, but you are right, there may not be much savings. I would like to plot how...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

I have had some experience of water heat stratification before, albeit on larger tanks (1.5kL). My tank is 180L, so I'm estimating that if I put the sensor 1/3 from the top, a temp of 45C will give me 1/3 of a tank of hot water (60L), enough for a quick shower (which is all that is needed during...

Adding extra temperature sensor to hot water tank

I've just replaced all the old Danfoss controls on my heating system with a 3-channel Wiser system which seems to be working pretty well. However, I'm a bit disappointed that there's no finer control of the water heating circuit. There's a great big old thermostat at the bottom of the tank. the...

Replacing 2-zone +DWH Danfoss controls with smart system like Wiser or Tado

So, yesterday I installed Wiser 3ch (2 ht zones +hw) plus 2 room stats and 3 trv's. Everything went according to plan, and no issues whatsoever. I'll test the system thoroughly over the next 2 weeks, then buy 3 more TRVs to increase the control. Unfortunately, in my bedroom, where there was a...

Replacing 2-zone +DWH Danfoss controls with smart system like Wiser or Tado

approx. 3 walls and i floor separates them, so that's a no-go on the extra cable. Don't worry, I'll make sure the earthlive is properly labelled!

Replacing 2-zone +DWH Danfoss controls with smart system like Wiser or Tado

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it. In other countries like Italy electricians run flexible corrugated hoses in between two points so that you can change the wire contents at a later stage. But here in the UK it looks like all the cables are buried in the plaster, ceilings and floors. I...
