sounds like a plan! will "2x"1.5 be fine?

i thought it would be, but as being new to it is there anyone who came give me some pointers? what timber would be suitable, how to fix and how to set out etc. dont want to cock it up and dont have the money to get anyone in to do it.

i'm looking to put up a suspended ceilign on top of original ceiling and wondering the best way to go about it. original ceiling is is bad in some areas but nothing disturbing the shape, taking the ceiling down is a nono as loft i want a no mess option. im assuming straping right onto it...
