I put on hinge side also because sometimes lining may be twisted or paint build up causing hinge bound. In fact I cut most doors with plunge saw on rail so set up slight tilt of 1.5 degrees on saw. This gives correct leading edge for doors as narrow as 686mm( any narrower may need a bit more)...
