Loop ceiling lights - is this correct

@EFLImpudence hi, thanks for the info this is the wiring the electricians did when we renovated the house and had it rewired in 2008. One set of cable lights stopped working earlier this year (worked since the rewiring) so looking at replacing now. All I’ve done is taken the light...

Loop ceiling lights - is this correct

Hi, we have some cable lights, two sets attached to the same switch. One set stopped working and an electrician looked and said the transformer needed replacing. The set was from 2008 and I couldn’t find the same model so just ordered two new cable sets, including transformers. When looking at...

Small concrete slab against brick and stone. Is it ok?

Hi, we are going to tile two small external areas up to our front door with Victorian tiles. We are going to dig out, put some hardcore in, followed by about 4 inch deep concrete (will add some micro fibres to the mix). Let it dry out for a few weeks, and then tile upon a decoupling membrane...

Creating flowerbed against house advice on damp

Cheers for the advice. Yeah that drain had a clay pipe and it’s collar was cracked. Replaced it last year.

Creating flowerbed against house advice on damp

So if I did a course of bricks or concrete edge where the render is, so soil not right up to it, then I should be ok? We did have pots before. But it is in full sun there so they quickly dry out

    Soundproofing a Semi Detached - Advice/ Experiences

Yeah both rooms we did had a chimney breast so stud wall went all the way across mirroring shape of the wall. Again not fixing to the actual chimney breast. One room we used metal studs, the other timber. Tbh, room with timber seems to have worked better.

Creating flowerbed against house advice on damp

Hi, we live in a terraced house on a hill, that has the ground floor elevated off the pavement by a metre or so. We have a very small area outside the front that we would potentially like to plant up so looks better. The area currently has broken concrete. And is in front of our cellar that is...

    Soundproofing a Semi Detached - Advice/ Experiences

We’re in a terraced house and had similar issues with students. Fortunately we had enough room in the first floor bedrooms to lose 20cm. We built stud wall, not fixed to party wall. Filled with sound proof insulation. Double boarded with soundproof board and filled any gaps with sound proofing...

Is this damp in external wall?

Yeah when we bought it and done up initially back in 2007, we had damp work done in kitchen, with membrane internally and a DPI externally. The latter never got done as builder went out of business.

Is this damp in external wall?

Cheers for the advice @^woody^ . As well as a couple builders, I’ve asked some renderers to look so hopefully amongst them I’ll get it sorted. Thanks for the advice

Is this damp in external wall?

Hi @tell80 , thanks for the reply. Our main concern was getting it rendered but it being compromised so wasting money. I can’t see evidence of a DPC. There is an airbrick round the corner but I think this part of the kitchen is solid floor (an old extension long before we moved in - like an out...

Is this damp in external wall?

If we were getting it rendered, would it need pointing?

Is this damp in external wall?

Hi, we have this external wall and the mortar is discolouring and becoming slightly flakey (more so in the bottom right of the picture). It is a Victorian terraced but the previous owners rebuilt this wall (some reason used smaller bricks and massive mortar joints). Anyway, we want to render...

    Filler for lining paper gap

Hi, my dad had some work done to move a light and the lining paper, and other old wall paper underneath, was cut away. He can’t afford a decorator so I was going to attempt to make it look less messy for him. I don’t want to have to strip the wall, so was wanting to just fill, sand and repaint...
