    If its a quick fix you want just drill a small hole knock some wood in there like a bit of dowl rod and drill a few shallow spots in the rest of the area then put some filler on the rest of the patch and smooth it over and make sure when you drill the screw for the shelf it goes into the wood...

    Thats a fair point because once a stand is made for it the combined weight would be heavy so maybe a nice set of castor wheels for the base would be a good idea.

    I think this the best style of stand to go for but the stand needs to match the industrial look of the light so I think maybe I should go with this style but use steel piping and some joints to get the same sort of result.
