Output wiring from SELV transformer - T+E OK?

Excuse ignorance but why should you never cut back cpc ? Is it in case something is fitted in the future that needs earthing ?

    New CU in Loft

Yes Pensdown i understand what you are saying. For ME, the proposal is ideal . For his next customer it may not be.

    New CU in Loft

I'm confused now by that post ban all sheds. Earlier in the thread i got the impression you thought it best to use one or both of the spare ways i have in the existing CU ?

    New CU in Loft

Well Pensdown i don't think theres much in it really. I've now run the 10mm cable to the loft from the CU and the electrician came round and checked it last night on his way home from work. He said if i hadnt done that i'd have to pay him more to do it any other way. As things are it's not...

    Crafty's shed installation

Hey, Andy. Interesting you should say that because in a thread which i started recently Adam151 made the following comment : I'd recommend a couple of 20A radial circuits for the loft if you go for the submain idea, reason being, I don't think a 32A breaker would discriminate with a 40A one...

    TT System and RCD

Thanks for that lads So would i be right in saying that the main earthing on a TT system is not as reliable as it is on other systems so the extra (RCD) protection on all the circuits is always needed ?

    TT System and RCD

Ive seen mentioned a couple of times now about a TT System ( i think i understand this, am i right in saying its an earth rod in the ground system ? ) having to be RCD protected. Can somebody please explain in laymans terms why this is.

    New CU in Loft

Well dingbat i certainly got the impression he knew his stuff and was a decent chap - i was just wondering if he was going OTT . But if 10mm is standard and the submain gets your vote thats good enough for me. Thanks again

    New CU in Loft

Time was, you would have a 60w bulb on the ceiling of the bathroom. do you really need 200w of lighting? Maybe not - will have a seperate shower light 60W , maybe a couple of wall lights 60W each total 180W - just trying to give some idea of maximum. So you have 2 spare ways, and he wants...

    New CU in Loft

Hi Pensdown. Loft conversion is : 1 bedroom which will have 3 or 4 double sockets running not much more than hairdryer, TV and hoover. Lighting if all on would be around 500W. 1 ensuite , 200W lighting max ( with shower light ) , 12V extractor. First floor = 3 bedrooms , 1 bathroom -...

    New CU in Loft

Had an electrician around yesterday to look at some wiring for my loft conversion. The wiring will be 1 circuit for sockets ( TV, Hairdryer,Hoover ) , i circuit for smoke alarms, and one for lights ( about 7 or 8 bulbs ) I have a 6 way CU at the moment, 4 ways are being used. He told me i had...

What Type of Shower Light ?

... unless its being used in conjunction with an extractor fan / triple pole isolator apparently ??

What Type of Shower Light ?

No, not at all. I appreciate your attempt to help crafty but i thought you meant in conjunction with a recessed light but i was talking about a flush light. Sometimes its not straightforward making yourself understood is it ? Much easier to explain face to face . Apart from in places like B+Q...
