    Wood Treatment (Interior)

Hi guys, any advice on what to use to finish 2 loft trusses which are inside, and visible, in my loft extension (lined loft)? No experience in this at all, considered clear varnish, sanding down, `plating` with hardwood, painting white (to match walls). For info the skirtings/facings etc are...

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

I`m sorry you feel that way, I in no way am trying to wear you down, I`m simply a unexperienced DIY-er on a DIY forum looking for help. I`ve decided not to "notch" the celotex now anyway, as you say, I think it`ll create so much unnecessary work. Instead I`m going to fit the celotex between the...

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

No sorry, as pointed out I should have used uprights as apposed to joists....that`s why I`m here I suppose, in an attempt to learn/improve! "as you're not bothered with heat loss from one room to the next" - The room is in the loft so I would be bothered about heat escaping the room as it would...

Thanks for the replies. I`ve tried to attach how I was planning on doing it, would that be acceptable?

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Perfect thanks for your help. I`ll stick with the Celotex, the point about sound deadening won`t really be an issue up there for me. I`m actually planning on having an electric blanket with a smart socket which I can put on just before coming home from nightshift, hopefully no heating. If it...

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Yes sorry, internal partitions. Sh*t, already ordered the Celotex. Understand what your saying, thanks. Will the 100mm Celotex provide better insulation than the 100mm insulating wool? If so, how much better? I`ve had a thermometer up there for the last week, highest it`s reached is...

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Sorry Doggit, what do you mean by "What you want is a gap between the kingspan and the tiles." The walls I`m doing aren`t near the external walls, so for simplicity let`s say they are in the middle of a loft area away from the roof or any external walls.

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Thanks, so the kingspan I fit between the joists should this be left a certain distance away from the back of the plasterboard or should it be up as close as possible?

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Thanks for reply. Any advice for insulation thickness for a loft bedroom.......up in NE Scotland? 100mm suffice? Got a quote for 100mm Recticel for £36 per 2400x1200 sheet from a local supplier, dropping to £33 if I buy 20 sheets or more!

    Loft Bedroom Insulation

Hi all, hoping for some advice on the below: - Suggested kingspan/Celotex/Recticel thickness for a loft conversion (I was thinking 100mm)? Do I need to tape joints between sheets (where the timber is) with aluminium tape? Do I need to fill any gaps between joists and sheets with expanding...

    Loft Ladder Help

I also hope I don`t have a house fire :O At work now, will get a picture though. At least I have access/egress through the velux window if it came to it. Cheers.

    Thermometer accessible via the Web

Anyone know/recommend a thermometer I can access via a website dashboard? Don`t want to control anything, would just like it for monitoring purposes. Seems to be a lack of them.

    Loft Ladder Help

Hi guys, looking for some help/ideas please! I`m currently converting a small loft space into a room which I`m planning on using as a nightshift bedroom. I got the velux in at the weekend and am currently building the walls in preparation for insulating and plasterboarding. The problem is the...

    Growing Peapods

Hi guys, complete novice here......I understand March-May is best time to plant peas but heard late peas can still be grown. Would it still be possible to grow the Sugar Ann variety this late in the year up here in North East Scotland? Thanks
