Is this board made of asbestos?

Ok, so the results are in. The board contains Chrysotile (White asbestos) and looks to be a cement based board after speaking to a company about it. £400 +VAT to remove it which seems very expensive. After seeking other advice we’ve been advised that it’s best to seal the board as it’s not a...

Is this board made of asbestos?

Great, thanks for the tips. I've seen people use watered down PVA glue as well when damping down the board and also some kind of putty to seal the exposed edge after breaking it. Is that something worth doing?

Is this board made of asbestos?

Thanks guys. I've gone for a test from this site: https://www.asbestos-sampling.com/. Hopefully at worst, it's a cement based asbestos board that I might be able to remove myself. I'll update when I have the results. (y)

Is this board made of asbestos?

The worry I have about removing it, even if it is a cement based board, is that it's nailed in rather than screwed in. So it'll be difficult to remove it without breaking it.

Is this board made of asbestos?

Thanks, the problem is that this was part of the garage which was converted to a room before we moved in, in 2019. This is a playroom for the kids and we removed the door to go under the stairs for extra storage for toys etc. So, if it is asbestos, then it really needs to be removed. It does...

Is this board made of asbestos?

Hi, Just wondering if this board that I found under the stairs could be an asbestos board of some kind. I thought it was all cement under the stairs but when I looked closer, I noticed that part of it was a separate board and it's definitely not made of wood as far as I can tell. Pictures below:

Making a "Garden store" more like a room

Ok, long time without updating again. I’ve finally got around to battening the external walls. 50mm of insulation between the battens and eventually insulated plasterboard on top of the vapour barrier that I’ve done some of already: Before I can install the insulated plasterboard I’ve got to...

Making a "Garden store" more like a room

Ok, so its been a while since I've updated this thread. After several quotes, we got a reputable roofer in and he removed the plastic roof above the room and replaced with a cold roof, similar to the one described above. Cost just over £1000. So that's now done and hopefully that's now sorted...

Making a "Garden store" more like a room

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. If I stick 100mm of Celotex/insulation on the wall and around the window, I'm going to be "pulling" the wall out by 100mm and therefore 100mm away from the window which is currently flush with the brickwork. I've done some googling but I'm not sure what to...

Making a "Garden store" more like a room

I did ask our neighbours when the roof/room/tiling was added to the back of the house. They advised that it had always been there ever since they moved in more than 20-25 years ago! I don't think we have any certificates for it. I think we have looked through the docs when we bought it, but I...

Making a "Garden store" more like a room

Hi, First time posting on here as I'm not sure what to do next with a garden store that we have at the back of the house. When we bought the house back at the start of 2019, we were told this room was a "garden store". The bloke that we bought the house from, used it to fix up his motorbikes...
