Can I drill holes to drain pooling water on decking

If you can’t see underneath, try squeezing a phone in somewhere to take a photo? Please don’t drop the phone between the boards though! Or a decent endoscope might help; the cheapo eBay/Amazon jobs typically don’t focus more than a few inches away so might not be much help. Otherwise…...

    Problem with Old Shower Controller

That simple! Anyway the reed switch has gone missing, quite possibly when bathroom was ripped apart for re-fit. New pump maybe, at least. Thanks again Stem.

    Problem with Old Shower Controller

Wires to my pump look fine. Other end's the problem. Can you remember how the front of the controller comes off please?

    Problem with Old Shower Controller

Great stuff thanks Stem. Yes the wire's missing, the installer can't figure out how it connects at the controller (it was taken apart by someone else before the re-fit). I'll have a look later / see if I can locate terminals on the controller. Otherwise, the mixer works OK so might look at...

    Problem with Old Shower Controller

Thanks guys. It's a flat cable all right. Pink. Shower's unbranded and I can't find any paperwork that came with it. Away atm so will post photos next time am home (might help someone else here one day, never know).

    Cheap surface mount shower mixer

Think I might soon have this problem! Would external valve fixings help? https://www.screwfix.eu/triton-bar-mixer-shower-external-valve-fixings-for-exposed-pipes-mm.html https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chrome-Backplate-Wall-Elbows-Exposed-pipes-Thermostatic-Bar-Mixer-Shower-Valve-/370597152115

    Problem with Old Shower Controller

Recently had a bathroom re-fit and ended up with the shower not working properly. The original shower was fitted 20+ years ago. This has been put back. Before re-fit, there was what looked like speaker cable running from the shower valve to a pump (pump by hot water tank in airing cupboard). It...

    Rotted Tilted Fillet

Everyone out fixing rooves while the sun shines?

    Rotted Tilted Fillet

I’m replacing very old fascia and soffits on our cottage. Was going OK until we took a front fascia off and found the tilting fillet rotted. The roof has cement fibre slates, nail and rivet – done 15-20 years ago. My gut feel is the rot’s taken place since (the timber feels dry atm but it’s...

New EPDM warm deck flat roof - finishing touches

Fix from side at an angle to fix to the bottom OSB. And come down from top , unless you've glued DPM right to the edge already? Ensure fixings don't protrude so DPM is protected. Otherwise something like Sticks Like Sh*t to secure at the top. In any case, to avoid having to chisel out all that...

New EPDM warm deck flat roof - finishing touches

Would it help if you could fix a board (20mm thick say) between the OSB layers at the edge (so that it's face would be flush with the edges of the OSB)? The insulation would need to be trimmed back somehow so this board could slot in place, so to speak. Is everything already fixed in place?

Sharp Sand Substitute : Sand from Brighton Beach ??

Happily took a bucket from the beach when short for a concrete mix recently. Easier than 15 mile round trip to builders' merchant. Probably not strictly allowed - aren't beaches owned by Crown Estate or something? Up to a point at least?

    Two-Piece Fascias

Hmm... Wasn't going to... But would that secure the verge slates without needing to nail them to the barge boards?

    Two-Piece Fascias

Thanks catlad. Had another look and removed part of the fascia. Both parts were nailed together so must’ve gone on that way. So reckon you’re right with sourcing deep enough fascia. Or maybe just more economical to use two pieces whenever their ‘standard’ board was too narrow. Can of worms –...
