    possible old gas pipe?

OK, NG chap came out last night at 6pm to look - "oh, yes. I see what you mean". He looked at the meter in the hall (roughly in line with the pipe) - "ah, I see a service head adapter. That means your gas is piped with yellow pipe, which is a good thing. It's probable they've used the old...

    possible old gas pipe?

Cheers all - NG are sending someone out between 4.15 and 8.15 tonight to give it a checkover. I'll be enquiring about moving the thing, or getting it out of the way somehow if poss - it'd be nice to be able to get a car up there and get both on the drive! As it stands, by the looks of google...

    possible old gas pipe?

Not sure if this is the right place, BUT.. I live in a 50's wimpey house - gas comes in to the meter under the stairs. All is fine. However, outside, roughly in line with the meter there's a tube, sticking up through the gravel. Roughly an inch or so diameter, short, cap of some sort...

clay soil, waterlogged grass, and car parking.

I have 2 questions really, I suppose. I have clay soil - every winter, my back lawn turns from grass, to mud/moss, and water. Very slippy, very annoying. I've been in contact with a grass company who've suggested a mix that should do well in the conditions, but we have rabbits...

    50's wimpey no-fines - wallpaper on ceilings?

I own a 50's era Wimpey No-Fines 2 bed house, and I have..well, a couple of questions..heh. First one - in the living room, the ceiling has been wallpapered over - a LONG time past, if the uncovered brown, cracking, crumbling paper is any judge. The paper has been gloss painted, but it has a...

Baxi Bermuda 552 fire won't ignite - safe to leave?

I think you're right - the fire is piezo ignition. Ours can be a pain in the arse - if you click it and it fires, then you accidentally release it before the thermocouple is ready, it makes you wait and wait before it allows a relight. I would be surprised if it allowed a gas stream without...

Question about a Cat Enclosure I want to build

We built a catrun a while ago, using prefabricated dog run galvanised mesh panels from here: http://www.doghealth.co.uk/ All bolt together, 6ft high panels. They even do a prefabricated door panel. If you were going to do a dual level job, it'd be a case of drilling a couple of new...

    Wiring questions..

Ah, good. That's reassuring then. It's just that the PO had an interesting way of doing DIY. For instance, installing light switches upside down, and not fitting the wire retaining screws, leaving the wires just pushed into place. Or having the entire utility (6 sockets, a PIR and 2...

    Wiring questions..

Last night, I knocked off our immersion at the fuseboard. It was either that, or try to fight the airing cupboard door, which was installed handle-less by the last owner, as it binds BADLY on the carpet, with my kids asleep. No contest. The house is a 50's wimpey concrete job, rewired when...

Question about utility room, corrugated roof.

Our house is a '50s era Wimpey No-fines job, with the single skin brick utility out the back, off the kitchen. This is roofed with the corrugated Asbestos sheet (is that right? Grey, fibrous, quite old, original). At some point (I assume) this has been taken right up to the house and...

    Baxi Bermuda/Honeywell heating problem

//www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/honeywell-st699b-replacement-battery.294798/#2155342 That's the info for the battery.. :)

    Baxi Bermuda/Honeywell heating problem

Agreed. Same system here (Bermuda and ST699) - check in your airing cupboard - that's where mine was. 3 amp fuse - if it goes, you lose boiler control and your display will act like that. You also have a flat backup battery in the ST699.. :) I had to open mine up and replace it (few quid)...

Good programmable thermostat? (not Drayton Digistat!)

That's odd. I have a digistat+3, and it doesn't have that issue. Set temps are reached and held fine. :)

Advice on replacing old manual thermostat with digital progr

I had a honeywell stat and an ST699 hot water/heating programmer, and the 'stat died. So I fitted a Drayton Digistat +3 in is place, and now have the heating on the ST699 set to "on" permanently, so the digistat takes that role over. Works well.

Double Glazing - ruddy cold draughts.

I live in a Wimpey No-fines house that had the external insulating render, a rewire and double glazing fitted in 1997. Now, I know the units are knocking on a bit, and certainly one needs a new hinge, but at night if you fail to draw the curtains fully, theres a hell of a cold draught. One...
