So I think I’ve reached the point of no return with a wetroom.
The floor is NoMorePly 22mm TG4 construction board on joists and as well as screwing them down you have to run a line of adhesive along the joists.
I’m just worried that once it’s glued down, there’s no going back (At least I...
I meant in the context of 10mm following the same route as the 6mm, but I can see how it gets there is irrelevant.
As you say it's 'start again' or find a way to get the 10mm up to the Ext CU and a 6mm down. But at least just the one 6mm! Thanks
Before my time. It’s in a cupboard and out of the way.
It’d be too much upheaval to replace the 6mm to the Extension CU, but 10mm could go under the ground floor to the kitchen. Bit messy to get it up to the Ext CU but not out of the question.
The cooker is currently gas and there’s only...
Any thoughts please? If it should all be controlled from the same CU, I can’t see any alternative than 10mm running from the main cupboard, under the floor to the kitchen, up to the bedroom CU, and then 6mm cable (or two?) back down to the kitchen.
It's the house's only kitchen. When the extension was built (before my time) it was moved there. So the electric for the extension (kitchen and bedroom above) runs off the CU in the bedroom, the supply into it comes from a 6mm cable that goes back to a separate switch in a cupboard in the old...
Sorry I don’t follow. If 10mm runs to the kitchen but not to the extension CU, surely it will have to be controlled from the main cupboard, while everything else will be from the extension CU?
Thanks - that's good point about gas and woks.
So instead of trying to replace the 6mm from the main electric cupboard to the extension CU, It looks possible to run it under the ground floor to the kitchen. So my question is - should a 10mm run up to the CU and then run two 6mm cables down to...
I hadn’t really thought about that but that makes sense. It’s definitely not an RCD/RCBO that trips and can be reset. I’ll need to check with the electrician. The CU is about 12 years old so I’m surprised it wasn’t done then.
Okay, so I should have been more precise. I say Consumer Unit as a collective term for the electric cupboard but what happens is that the electricity supply comes in and splits 1. to the Consumer Unit where RCBOs control the house excluding the extension, 2. to a Main Switch (on/off) from...
Running cable from the extension CU to the kitchen below would be relatively straightforward. Upgrading the current 6mm cable (or adding a second one) from where the main CU is to the extension CU would be tricky. (It’s not actually in the CU, it runs from a main switch below)
Thanks - could you elaborate? For example, does the 6mm supply in to the CU restrict everything out? Would that have to increase to 10mm before anything else?
