Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Ok, this is getting interesting (or not). Just had British Gas round, and this was the first guy who took proper readings, both static and dynamic. I'm a bit shocked: 2 bar mains pressure. 10 litres a minute  With 2 taps open, this drops to 7 litres a minute. Incoming mains...

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Interesting points, I'm still confused! Any one to counterbalance LondonChap's strong push down the combi/ATAG route?

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

I've been quoted almost £3300 plus VAT for a WB 42 CDi combi (located in the loft). Expensive. But why do I need to change the boiler anyway? It works. Going back to the combi idea, I don't understand why there is a so much conflicting advice. We're a family of 4 in a 5 bed house....you...

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

This whole thing seems to get more and more confusing, with options getting more and more expensive, and different opinions left right and centre. Part of me thinks I should do nothing but stick a central heavy duty pump upstairs in the airing cupboard, but there again I hate the noise and I...

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

To be honest, that's my interpretation of "fine" rather than anything qualified. Cold water tap in kitchen is 3 bar fully open, downstairs w/c which is right next to the stop cockc and the outside tap much higher pressure (not measured though). Outside tap measured 22 litres per minute, but I...

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Just checked the pipe at the stop cock, and it's 15mm. How much of an issue is this? Pressure seems fine, measured flow seems fine....?

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Right, I've just checked out on the outside tap, and approximately I think I'm getting 20-22 litres per minute. Am I safe going down the unvented route then? :) (i.e. not a waste of money!) Thanks

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

That's what I thought! Ok, dumb question time, what's an accumulator, and what does it do? It is an Ideal Classic! The thing is, if it's going to run for years, is there really any point in changing it? Thanks all for the quick responses :)

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Ok, should I be measuring from the tap closest to the stopcock, or the kitchen sink tap?

Heating dilemna - unvented/combi - or do nothing?

Hi all I've got a bit of a dilemna and after speaking to two plumbers, I can't seem to get a straight answer. In short, we moved into our house 9 months ago. The house is a 5 bed detached (circa 2100 sq ft), 1 main bathroom with bath/shower, ensuite with shower and a downstairs w/c...

DeWalt 18v Drill on offer at Screwfix; any good?

I was toying with the £220 dewalt twin pack from Screwfix, but came across this: http://www.itslondon.co.uk/pd_MAK6347DWDEIDB_6347DWDEIDB_Makita18vCordlessImpactDriverDrillPack.htm £70 cheaper, higher torque, 13mm chuck, bigger capacity batteries. Am I missing something as that looks a...

    Painting a slate fireplace surround?

Hi all I our living room we have an old edwardian fireplace, which is big and very black. We are toying with the idea of painting the surround white, but I've discovered this is made of slate. Any idea how successful this would be? Any suggestions as to which primer we should use...

Sash window repairs - old owners painted them shut

Thanks for the reply :) I've never come across sash windows before so no idea how easy they are to take out of the frame. I assume they need to be dismantled for painting? Just thinking that with how long gloss takes to dry, I'll end up with no window overnight, which on the ground floor...
