    Calling all roof tile geeks!

Who are able to identify these tiles? They're from a 1934 house and I did know the name. Quite unusual tiles and hard to match!

    Howdens kitchens

I know two guys with Howdens accounts - a builder and a carpenter who does quite a few kitchens. Both are on 70% discounts

    Howdens kitchens

That surprises me. I've always found Ikea very good and Howdens seemed to be one of these different prices for every customer shops. They talked about 30% off straight away then moved it to 40 and it didn't inspire confidence.

    Howdens kitchens

I do various bits of building work and have fitted about 8 Ikea kitchens for clients - they've been delighted and despite cabinet space at back we've always got them in well. We've now been asked to supply and fit a Howdens kitchen. Never used them, know they're big with builders and ready...

    Franke composite sinks

Their new material Fragranite is supposed to get around the staining prolbmes with composite sinks so they claim. Great - we've put one in and two weeks later it's staining after regular cleaning. Their advise involves drying it after use. Is this a joke? Drying your sink after using it would...

Removing masking tape residue from acrylic bath

Have we got any tilers/builders who've done this before? I'm dubious of white spirits which may damage the finish and have tried WD40 which hasn't shifted the gum

Felt backed carpet onto underlay and spikes from gripper

Many thanks for your reply which is very helpful. The carpet fitter was very wary not to stretch the felt too much and ended up stapling it into the gripper rods to hold securely. Do you know the name of the specialist velcro like gripper for felt carpet you mentioned?

Felt backed carpet onto underlay and spikes from gripper

I've used felt backed carpet with underlay and gripper before and it was never a tight fit and also you can feel the spikes from the gripper. Spoke with a carpet fitter today and he said felt backed is designed for glueing not spikes and that it wont stretch like hessian so will never sit...

concrete floor and cellotex thickness query

Or option 3 - more hardcore under everything which is what I'd do and it's cheapest. MOT type 1 - about £40 per tonne delivered

    Building near to manhole/drains

Only large garages need BC - over 30m2. Are you sure yours needs it? I've built over drains before and used a lintel to take teh weight of the blocks and when at foundation depth with teh drain, boxed it in with ply then lintelled over again. I wouldn't want to sit foundations on top of where...
