    Steel Post Foundation

It’s a 7m x 7m carport. There’s x3 203 x 203 x 46kg/m universal beams. Between the beams will be 6” timber joists, supporting Western Red Cedar cladding to the underside, and an EPDM roof surface. Between the steel posts to the side there’ll be stud walls clad in composite cladding.

    Steel Post Foundation

The 100mm posts have 330mm x 330mm x 15mm thick bottom plates. The plan was to resin/bolt the bottom plates directly to concrete foundation pads. But the posts are situated in the middle of the driveway, so we don’t want the foundation pads to be seen above the driveway level.

    Steel Post Foundation

Hi, I’m building a 7m wide car port using steel posts and beams as specified by the SE. The bottom plate of the three supporting posts will be fixed to concrete foundation pads. The driveway is wider than the car port and the surface is block paved. We’d like to set the foundation pads...

    Insulated Concrete Pad

Hi, I’m wanting to build a summerhouse in my back garden that’s on an insulated concrete pad, with the floor level of the summerhouse being only marginally (seat 50mm) higher than the surrounding patio? Does anyone know? I.e. how do I enclose the insulation around the edges of the pad? Or does...

Can I Fit Bi-Fold Doors to the Inner Skin of Cavity Wall?

I spoke to my building control officer earlier today and he advised that he saw no problem in me sitting my doors on the inner skin and fastening directly to the corner post, which would be the best option I currently have for minimising the corner structure. As long as I seal up the exposed and...

Can I Fit Bi-Fold Doors to the Inner Skin of Cavity Wall?

If there's no way of fitting the doors to the inner skin then I guess I'll have to build a column on the outer skin for the doors to fix to. If that's the only solution then I don't mind doing this in blockwork, as I'll clad it in timber, or render it. I'm meant to be project managing the job...

Can I Fit Bi-Fold Doors to the Inner Skin of Cavity Wall?

Unfortunately not. The architect was vague with that detail, leaving it to the structural engineer to design the steels. And the structural engineer just provided hand-drawn sketches calcs and steel details, with no reference to the glazing.

Can I Fit Bi-Fold Doors to the Inner Skin of Cavity Wall?

Hi - looking for some advice please? I'm having a rear extension built and the intention is to have bi-fold doors at the corner that create an 'open corner', with minimal structure blocking the view (apart from a 100x100mm square section corner post). The steel frame and corner post have been...
