    Problem with insufficient hot water

Hi easyas, thanks for your comments. Okay I did some tests on the system. I switched the 2 port valve to the open position and let the central heating and hot water run this evening for 3 hours or more and was able to get a decent supply of hot water from the system. Why does the...

    Problem with insufficient hot water

Thanks for your reply. I've looked at the wiring diagram and as far as I can tell it is a c plan. There is a wire from the cylinder thermostat to the control valve, and one to the timer switch. So presumably when the timer is set to hot water on, the thermostat is telling the control valve...

    Osbornes busy day at work...

Sadly, I think you're absolutely right, but not necessarily for the reasons you think. What we're effectively seeing now is a East-West reset. Let me explain that. We're being reset back to where this country should be before this crazy reliance on credit took a hold and destroyed...

    Simple Question about Mobiles.

I can't really comment on any of those phones, I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes all these new fangled technology devices and this comes from someone who worked in computing for many years! The pace of technology change now truly is frightening and a lot of the time companies want you to...

    Problem with insufficient hot water

Well that's my hunch. I think I'm going to change the motor in the two port valve and the thermostat on the hot water cylinder and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't, I suppose I'll have to call out a plumber. :(

    Problem with insufficient hot water

Thanks for your input comment. Whilst I do live in a hard water area and scale can be a problem here (and I have no doubt the system would benefit from a descale) I just can't see how that could be causing the problem I'm experiencing. The pressure from the hot water taps is fine, it's the...

What's a c plan gravity system and how would I descale it? Thanks.

    A question for 4x4 haters......

I do, I hate them all equally! Anything bigger than an average family saloon I'm going to hate, because they block my vision of the road. Safe driving is all about awareness of what's going on around you and anticipating potential hazards, anything that obstructs or conceals those hazards is...

    A question for 4x4 haters......

I can't stand 4x4's or the 'usual' inconsiderate idiots* who drive them. Why? 1/ Because they are larger (regardless of what anyone says, they are larger than your average car) and that means they're going to be over my side of the road far more often whilst they try and get past that...

Okay Terry, thanks for your help.

    Problem with insufficient hot water

As you can see from the pictures, the cylinder is pretty close to the boiler. I've tried turning the thermostat switch whilst the system is one and the 2 port valve does nothing. There's a bleed pipe on the bottom of the cylinder (you can just see it on the left hand side of the orange...

    Problem with insufficient hot water

I'm sorry, could you explain this? Clock? The timer? On which system, hot water or central heating? I'm pretty handy with lots of things - cars, computers, most DIY etc plumbing I'm afraid is a mystery!

Here's some pictures of the system if it helps.
