    Hudson Reed shower valve

The supply is a combi boiler. I take it that you mean the internal gubbins of the valve when you mention new thermostat?

    Hudson Reed shower valve

I have an HR shower valve external fitting - fitted 2 years ago and working fine. Without warning I could only get a cold shower and the rest of the house had tepid (at best) hot water. I have found one of the check valves in the elbow has been wedged in the open position by a piece of (what...

    Problem with Valspar paint?

I am in process of refurb at the mo' and have reached paint time. I have painted the walls with Valspar emulsion - no probs, went on fine and covered well. Have now started painting wood with Valspar Premium - water based eggshell (or so I was told). Having stripped wood back, first coat...

    Boiler prob.

The pressure does rise when heating on - I appreciate the expansion happening - but I thought that there would be a gradual fall in that pressure as the water was being pumped round. In other words, why does it appear to only lose pressure after system is turned off? Stephan

    Boiler prob.

Thanks for those replies. I now have a plastic bag wrapped over the PRV outlet - time will tell. As an additional point - while the central heating is working, ie: pumping the hot water round, pressure remains constant (as far as I can tell) and it is not until I switch the heating off that...

    Boiler prob.

The installer was back this morning. He spoke with Grant as well - from the words used after that phone call, I got the impression he thought he was being fobbed off. I replaced the boiler after renovating a utility area and I am now able to use residual heat (such as it is, and it does a...

    Boiler prob.

I have had a new boiler fitted December. It is a Grant Vortex 26 combi internal. It has replaced a Grant Vortex 26 combi external. The old boiler was 4 years old and serviced a system of 10 rads - not known how old the system is, I have acquired the central heating when buying the property...

    What boiler?

OK, I have reached decision to renew the boiler. I would like to achieve a warm utility room (where the boiler is going to be housed) via the residual heat from the boiler. I have been told that this will not happen because the latest boilers (probably going to use Worcester) are so efficient...

    Grant boiler

Thanks for replies. I think that answer is a new boiler. Whilst I am perfectly happy with performance of the grant outside unit, I have a preference (and now the space) for inside unit. Anyone interested in a 5 year old exterior boiler? stephan

    Grant boiler

I have a grant outdoor vortex combi 26 inherited when I bought the house. This boiler was new in 2009. I have now renovated and want the boiler inside the utility, not outside. I have spoken to Grant who state that the unit can be positioned inside once it has been provided with new bits...

    damp proofing

In the process of renovating 1920's property, solid brick walls. It has slate dpc but over the years grd lvl has crept up and damp has caused probs. Thinking of digging trench around walls, bitumen up to above air brick lvl, stick 1000g dpm to bitumen, extend dpm below grd lvl - below slate...

    valve weep

How dare you! The size of my nuts is of no consequence or relevance (but small as you ask). Thanks for replies - problem now solved. I think putting the axe near the rad was the answer, although heaps more PTFE might have helped. steve

    valve weep

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. The weep is not from the tail, ie: the nut tighting on the olive, it is the nut which tightens onto the rad itself, no olive. steve

    valve weep

Have just replaced rad with new one from Vic. Plumb. The valves are the cheapo cross head things (a bit of retro). Thing is, both are weeping. When screwing on nut, wrapped 3 rounds of PTFE and tightened. Slow weep, a drop a minute sort of thing, out of the back of the nut. No weep from tails...

    asbestos roof tiles?

Thanks for replies. I am told that the roof was relaid in 1980 and was under impression that would mean a no to asbestos, but reading what has been suggested, possibly not. Bugger. stephan
