Thanks Bernard I almost understand. Probably now 50% likelihood of death by electrocution. There is indeed a PIR but the connections aren't separate. I've just connected the mains as shown below, plugged it in....and blew the main fuse. Still confused.....

Hi guys, I'm not a spark but still forgive my dumbassness. I'm wiring a light in the garden. Power cable from house: brown, blue, yellow/green. Fine, I get that. Power cable from lamp: red, brown, blue. The red and blue have got a white wire on each. What is that all about?..... Please help...
