I'm going to continue testing it today to see if I can get it to work when the Salus is set to "On" just with the timer. There's no thermostat - only the heating and water temp controls on the front of the boiler

Thanks for the quick replies. In that case I'm not sure what the Timeguard is supposed to talk to - the boiler or the thermostat? If it's the boiler then I would expect it to still turn the boiler on regardless of the thermostat (maybe I'm wrong), but if it's the thermostat it talks to then that...
