Hi Folks
Thanks again for all your help - it was educational and helpful. However, following the rewireing of the system by British Gas because of a dodgy neutral wire the original or a similar problem to the original problem manifested itself. The boiler wouldn't ignite fully - pilot light...
Doh! I was thinking you were talking about the mass of wires and screw connector blocks from the valves to the boiler. Silly me.
There are 3 wires going to the pump - first thing I checked when I thought the pump wasn't running but all power is getting there. Now to see if the pump is fed...
Obviously you mistake the question of asking here if the DIY book's suggestion is a valid one with the idea that I am actually suggesting this to a tradesman standing in front of me.
I wouldn't suggest anything to a "tradesman" but I dammed well want to know if I am being ripped off.
I...
The system was installed about 1980 ish. I was living in South London at that time and only moved down here in 1998. I inherited an old potterton, clock type controller and a pump with a built in bypass.
When th eboiler was changed and new pump fitted (6 years and 2 years respectively) I was...
I have this sneaky feeling that the guy who installed the original system was a half wit as opposed to a complete fool.
The original boiler was a potterton with a manual constantly lit pilot and no electronics whatsoever. The guy that installed this one was Ok because it worked but I don't...
Yes I know that I need a competant gas engineer but where do you find these guys?
All joking apart - I asked if a faulty aps (air pressure switch?) could cause this and was laughed down at the suggestion.
PCB comes in as a last resort on the Potterton fault finding list and as the gas...
Simple? That's what I thought then it got too cold so I called in an "expert(?)" but before that I tried a bit of logical thinking - I first thought the pump had packed in after 2 years but on checking there it was wirring away merrily as it should... couldn't believe it. Then I thought the...
Off at programmer - bothe valves appear to close and boiler goes off. That's what you asked and that's what I did and so did the plumber guy.
I give up too at this rate I'll go back to coal fires and 2 jumpers.... Bring back London Smog at leat we didn't have any central heating to worry...
I did exactly what you suggested and I will add that is what the gas/plumber did when he came and said "I can't fix it - it isn't broken" as it was running OK at the time.
Both valves open and close - room stat switches on and off (kills boiler etc when off) Both HW & CH off at programmer...
Hi Mick, Been there - done that. It was initially set up for a fully pumped system when I fitted the timer/controller 9 years ago. It's a Landis & Staefa RWB9. It replaced a mechanical one that wast there originally that had a broken CH on/off switch. After tracing the wiring - the guy that...
