    Timber for Firedoor Linings

The door manufacturer specifies the following: http://www.flamebreaktechnical.com/FD30/pdf/doorframes.pdf But do door linings have to be certified as long as they conform to manufacturer's standards?

    Timber for Firedoor Linings

I am looking to make fire rated linings for some ovesized FD30 doors (3m and 2.7m high.) As no sets are available to buy off the shelf. What timber can I use to comply with regulations? The wall is 126mm thick. I plan to route an intumescent strip rebate into the lining myself.

    Door nib requirements

Looking at the building regs, 300mm door nibs are required for communal hallways, but I'd like to know if this also applies to a non communal hallway i.e doors within the dwelling? http://www.lifetimehomes.org.uk/pages/6-internal-doorways-and-hallways.html If so, does "leading edge of the...

Stud walls, extra joists and building regulations

I am dividing a space up into bedrooms etc using metal framed non load bearing stud walls. Some walls will run parallel to joists for couple of metres. I was hoping to just screw directly into existing joists, but have read vaguely online that in some circumstances a 2nd joists are required to...

    Good price or not

£35 per light + £35 per switch Yeah wife made the mistake of using Plimilco Plumbers once before. Tried to sell her a tap for £300. I had to tell him to drop his tools and go. Had good prices for European builders in the area before, seem to be lots of them. Just not sure about electricians...

    Good price or not

As it happens, he was working on flat upstairs so just asked. Intend to get more quotes, but thought it was convenient because he was already familiar with the wiring. On the face of it £35 seemed it might be affordable if we did a minimal installation, but then he said it usually costs 7 to...

    Good price or not

In London SW11. Subdividing an apartment putting in a few new rooms, so new lights, sockets etc. Been quoted £35 labour flat rate per fitting i.e. each switch, socket, light fitting + materials. (double for 2 gang, double for fused etc.) Is this close to average? Seems high.

Building and fire regulations adding bedrooms to openplan space

I was referring to the plywood partition. Everything else was a fully approved development. We are on 1st floor, there is one floor above us all self contained units.

Building and fire regulations adding bedrooms to openplan space

OK thanks. How do I determine if my property is more than 4.5M above ground level i.e. where do I measure to: the window sill, window opening or the floor? Also, regulation says the bottom of the "opening of the window" should be not more than 110mm from floor. The bottom of window at the...

Building and fire regulations adding bedrooms to openplan space

It's essentially a "shell" residential warehouse style space about 800sqft, not including kitchen, bathroom space etc. At the moment, we have a plywood partition at one end with 2 bedrooms built years ago without building control notification etc. and a large open living room. Ideally we...

    splitting double insulated lighting circuit

Because virtually every electrical lighting supplier and manufacturer uses the term "low voltage" to refer to 12v and "mains" to refer to 240v when categorising downlights. Must very difficult for electricians to communicate with their clients if both supplier and client use common parlance for...

    splitting double insulated lighting circuit

Lights are non-fire rated low voltage MR16s with individual transformers. Blue/black wires in photo 1 go to transformer which is wired to light in photo 2. I was planning to change to mains (no transformer) fire rated GU10s.

    splitting double insulated lighting circuit

OK, thanks, I get it now. Yeah 4 sets of lights are split between 2 6A MCB, I turned both off before unscrewing fitting.

    splitting double insulated lighting circuit

Is this possible: 2x 3 neutral going into that connector for 4 sets of lights?
