Thanks mate. No, he didn't have one. We're going to trying drilling and plugs. The concrete seems good and sound.

glue / screw grippers on concrete stairs? or glue foam-backed?

Hi, we have concrete stairs in a flat. one carpet fitter has told us that glueing or masonary nailing grippers won't last on the stairs. fine for lounge, but on the stairs the grippers will be pulled out over time. apparently only choice is glue down foam backed carpet. another carpet fitter...

do I buy a home cinema set up or improve what i have?

I think lucid is suggesting if you have scope to move the big sub box around the lounge, the forward firing might be better.. If not then get downward firing. To be honest, either, set up with the rest of the kit, will sound miles better than any of your other options you considered. Show us a...

    Painting skirting board tips

As above, I use old plastic table matts. I think Wilkinson or pound shop with do 4 for a quid, slide them under, they're rigid and big..

Cold bathroom, how to block holes around pipework..?

yeah, the carpet tiles down before did nothing, but collect dirt. we had got to the stage of removing towels to keep the room warm, which was silly. there's bathroom towel rads with 3K+ btus, double what the room theoretically needs, so that is one option if plugging gaps fails. cheers endecotp.

Cold bathroom, how to block holes around pipework..?

thanks John. I will look for mineral wool. my confusion is that the bathroom was warm enough for years, and the only thing changed is the removal of the carpet tiles. although, I think it also coincided with my wife moving in... hmm, perhaps that's the most significant change...;)

Cold bathroom, how to block holes around pipework..?

okay, thanks burnerman, I will consider radiator options. the door does have a gap, but the rest of the house is normally warmer than the bathroom... will checkfor drafts as it gets colder..

Cold bathroom, how to block holes around pipework..?

thanks both.. to try to answer your questions - the room is small, here's a picture. it was previously warm, despite a rotten window with large gaps, and a vent, but with the dirtiest carpet tiles to grace the earth. so, I removed the carpet tiles, had the floor sanded and gaps filled, the...

Cold bathroom, how to block holes around pipework..?

So, our bathroom is cold in winter. We removed carpet tiles for sanded floorboards. They have had the gaps filled between. My only guess for the source of the cold could be the gaps around the pipework.. Such as this Do we think this would be the culprit? And any tips on how best to block the...

is this a job too big for filler?

thanks LL. it has rotted, and the rotted bits I've pulled out. what remains is fairly sound. yes, was thinking a wooden plate bolted to the back, to give the filler a 'base'... and am assuming I would need to build up filler very gradually.. :?
