    Thanks Madrab. Just to clarify; the head was turned through 180 degrees from original so the pump is pumping down. In fact the arrow on the brass body points downwards.

    The pump flow is pointing down and the F&E tank level rises about 3/4" as it heats up. So that's why I don't think it's water overflow and must surely be condensation collection in the overflow outlet pipe ?

    Just to add :- the boiler is set at 65 degrees there is no water entering the tank via hockeystick vent pipe when heater is on

    I am not getting over-pumping and it is definitely hot water migrating slowly up the feed pipe Thanks for your U Bend suggestion though, I think that might help a lot. I haven't had a chance to do this yet but will try.
