forgive my ignorance but how do I determine if I have this system please

Help please anyone?! Been on holiday and my potterton ep3001 programmer now has a mind of it's own on our return. Left the ch off and hot water timed to come on couple of times a day. Timings appear to have remained the same on the unit (despite evidence of a power cut on the cooker timer)...
