So I managed to dig up an OS map dated 1947-1952. Compared to OS map of today and it doesn't seem that different.
Is this enough evidence to jump for joy???

Thanks guys. It is honestly beyond me why they would care. It would be a temporary structure fenced in by a (more ugly) 8 foot brick wall. The only person it will affect is me as I'll lose half my garden!

@big all - but that extension deffo seems to be post '48 right? The gable wall has recently been rebuilt but it still seems newish. Waiting to confirm deed details with vendor.

Thanks Woody. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid going down that route; the reason being that we might complete the purchase of the house, only to have planning rejected or delays (which would lead to a loss of income) - and then we are stuck with a house which doesn't suit half its purpose...
