    Recommend a *quiet* TPI thermostat?

[/url] Thanks for this - I didn't spot that when comparing the 2+ and 3+. Looks like that would also fit my requirements perfectly.

    Recommend a *quiet* TPI thermostat?

Haha - yes I admit it! The DT90E is seriously loud though (see the reviews on amazon!). It's not helped by the fact that it's very quiet at night where I live and we have wooden floors. Looks like I'll go for the Horstmann - it's a bit expensive, but not compared to the Nest!

    Recommend a *quiet* TPI thermostat?

I recently moved house and made the mistake of replacing the ancient room thermostat with the Honeywell DT90E. It works fine, but it's so loud that you can hear it clicking from almost every room in the house! Ideally I want: - TPI control - 5/2 or 7 day timer - wired - preferably mains...

    Separate hot water control?

It's working - thanks all for your replies! I took out the programmer, and was surprised to see that it was already set to 16. However, there was also a sticker stating that the programme should be set before installing the backup battery. I simply removed the battery for a few minutes...

    Separate hot water control?

Thanks very much for the replies, I really appreciate your advice - sorry for the delay, I didn't get to reply before I went away for Christmas. I've taken a few photos which may help. My system from the airing cupboard. The valve: The pump: It appears that the valve is suitable...

    Separate hot water control?

Background I installed a Honeywell CM927 in the summer (following advice from this forum!) and am very happy with its performance. As my house is old and drafty (despite my best efforts to improve it!) and I have young children I want to set the thermostat at around 15deg and leave it on all...

    Worried about damp quotes...

A quick question: Overview We're getting our utility room re-done, and we have damp on three walls (2 internal 1 external). We had 2 quotes, both of which were for around £1000. What happened My wife arranged all of this because she is at home during the day. However, a few weeks ago I...

Advice about electrics in front of CU [with photo]

Looks like the black box is a junction box: Seems a bit big for what it is. Hopefully there is a smaller modern equivalent. Chri5, I didn't quite understand what you meant about the Henley block - is there a smaller type? (actually I don't know what the Henley block does). Ed

Advice about electrics in front of CU [with photo]

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind getting a modern CU installed, I just didn't want to if I didn't need one. It's just reassuring to hear it from someone without money to make! I believe that black box is just a junction box, I will check when I get a chance. Perhaps I can buy a modern...

Advice about electrics in front of CU [with photo]

Hello, We're redecorating our living room, and have just taken out the cupboard which housed where the mains electricity enters the house and where the CU is. The current installation: As you can see, it is a work of great beauty. Unfortunately the previous owner only replastered up...

A quick look at my fusebox?

That's interesting, I didn't realize that. We hear a click there at about 11pm every day. Is this the same thing as having "Economy 7"? We use very little electricity overnight, so it sounds like it's not suitable for us.

A quick look at my fusebox?

No, we have neither. I understand the principle of an RCD and it sounds like a good idea to have one. Is this something I can buy and attach or is it more involved (requiring professional installation)? We do have an electric shower, which we plan to replace soon (it pumps water out, I'm...

A quick look at my fusebox?

Thanks for your replies. I suspected there might be a cover missing for the 30A fuse (yes, I did pull it out when I took the photo, it isn't usually exposed like that). Here's another pic with more of the beautifully installed system: We'd really like to shift the whole thing because...

A quick look at my fusebox?

Hi All, Just moved into a new house and am thinking about replacing my rewirable fuses with MCBs and here looks like a great place to ask! Here's a photo of the fusebox and a couple of fuses which I took out: As you can see, the 30A (cooker) fuse has already been switched to MCB...
