Shower stopped working - where to start?

Interesting note on the pull cord - we normally turn this on only when using the shower and switch it off afterwards. The new shower was 8.5kW as well - I did contemplate the idea of fitting a more powerful one but I decided to be conservative and just fit exactly the same wattage as the one...

Shower stopped working - where to start?

Thanks Terry - very kind of you; yes - I'm very pleased I was able to do it and make it work! I thought that question bit come up - I positioned the multimeter with none other than a giant glob of Blu-Tac and used smaller pieces for the probes! My rationale was if I got it in position before...

Shower stopped working - where to start?

Success! Thanks for your recommendations Terry - I went away and read a fair number of electrical safety articles before I started to be sure I was comfortable before I started the work. I've included some of my pictures for everyone's benefit below if anyone is tasked with something similar...

Shower stopped working - where to start?

Thanks Terry, some sound advice - I'll do that and report back. Yes - the power off last night (where it was working fine) was indeed dial first then ceiling cord switch. I assume the voltage check would be performed with the power still connected at the time? I have actually bought a new...

Shower stopped working - where to start?

Fair enough! Happy to do that - just wondering if anyone would recommend checking something first just in case that wasn't the issue. Assume the 'Essentials 8.5' on the front of this unit means I'm looking for a 8.5kW shower replacement?

Shower stopped working - where to start?

Hi all, You'll have to forgive me for my lack of any sort of experience with showers but I was hoping to get a "starter for 10" of where I would start troubleshooting my shower which has failed to start working this morning. Usual routine - pull rip cord to switch the supply on and turn the...

Dishwasher installation - 3.5 metres from water inlet / waste outlet

Hi folks - as promised here is my report back from the work I undertook on the bank holiday weekend. Everything nearly went according to plan except for I have to re-route through one of the cabinets as it was impossible to access the one I wanted to go to in the corner between the sink and the...

Dishwasher installation - 3.5 metres from water inlet / waste outlet

Thanks for the responses guys - it is very much appreciated. I didn't realise it wouldn't get too hot - I suppose I could have used a length of plastic tubing instead then (or again, would copper have been a better choice still?). The diagram is poorly drawn but yes - it will be installed as a...

Dishwasher installation - 3.5 metres from water inlet / waste outlet

Thanks for your reply Chappers - gives me some confidence that someone has attempted something similar to this before :-)

Dishwasher installation - 3.5 metres from water inlet / waste outlet

Hi folks, I hope you are all well. Please go easy on me - I am an amateur DIY'er and this is about my first planned out plumbing job! With that out of the way, I hope I have done my research correctly but before I start to lift a drill, I would really appreciate it if I could get my 'homework...

Veritas 8 Alarm - Blue strobe outside even when unset

Success! I bought a new bell-box in the end and this weekend, thanks to some longer ladders, I successfully removed the old bell-box, disabled it and fitted / commissioned a new Texecom Odyssey 1E. Connected the cables at the bell-box and put the battery jumper to the 'on' setting...

Veritas 8 Alarm - Blue strobe outside even when unset

Ok - thanks for the tip of where to unclip the terminal cover. Is there any way of disabling the bell box itself once the cover is lifted (is there a battery or some other power source it uses)?

Veritas 8 Alarm - Blue strobe outside even when unset

Had a crack at the front bell-box but unfortunately it was up higher than we could safely reach with the ladders. I was able to remove the metal cage from around the bell box (of course, the very last screw would not come out and had to be drilled!). Even though the panel was in hold-off...

Veritas 8 Alarm - Blue strobe outside even when unset

OK - if I was correct, I have tested both of the spare red wires in turn but to no avail - the blue strobe still shows once per 8 secs. New bell-box time?

Veritas 8 Alarm - Blue strobe outside even when unset

Ahh - going to take a stab and say it's at the panel; the current strobe wires are black; there are spare red wires (still fully sheaves) coming from each separate cable and are unused / twisted together - shall I strip these wires and put them in the strobe terminal?
