Success! I bought a new bell-box in the end and this weekend, thanks to some longer ladders, I successfully removed the old bell-box, disabled it and fitted / commissioned a new Texecom Odyssey 1E. Connected the cables at the bell-box and put the battery jumper to the 'on' setting...

Ahh - going to take a stab and say it's at the panel; the current strobe wires are black; there are spare red wires (still fully sheaves) coming from each separate cable and are unused / twisted together - shall I strip these wires and put them in the strobe terminal?
