Wiring in conduit - Capacity and splicing questions

Thanks PrenticeBoyofDerry, thanks for explaining what m.i meant, now the quote makes perfect sense and I know I must use 4mm². Re the sockets, there's only the one circuit, I just split it in two for the calcs as I would wire it in singles, and the earth is a smaller gauge than the L and N...

Wiring in conduit - Capacity and splicing questions

I'm planning to put some sockets and new 2 way lighting circuit in my garage, all in surface mounted conduit, I also need to run a earth bond from the CU to the gas pipe entry to the house, the gas is 6 m along the planned conduit run. The new sockets will be a new circuit fed directly from...

Determining ABV setting from min flow rate / pump curves etc

Vaillant 428 - Min flow required approx 20 litres/min (0.33 litres/sec or 1200kg/h) Pump Grundfoss Selectric 15/50 (set at III) - Pump curve here: http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/grundfos-ups-15-50-selectric-130-bare-pump/Grundfos%20UPS%20Selectric%20Pumps%20Brochure.pdf ABV Honeywell...

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

Flow temp set at 70. I can live with that, as the weather gets colder and we're running the heating at the same time as hot water, I can knock it down a bit and recharge times shouldn't be effected too much as there's less cycling when there's a higher circuit heat loss (ie via the rads).

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

More great info, the installer came back yesterday to upgrade the programmer from 1 day to 7 day, he also adjusted the pressure relief valve, the balancing valve on the hot water circuit (increased the resistance) and the anti-cycle timer. Since all are changed, System appears to be behaving...

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

In physical appearance it looks exactly like this one: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/34127/Plumbing/Central-Heating-Controls/Honeywell-Straight-Auto-Bypass-Valve-22mm I don't know if there are several different models that look exactly the same, but if not, it's defintely that one.

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

Via observation, that's the conclusion I had come to, I'm glad someone else believes that's the case. It's partly the cause of the problem we are having, I'm sure of it. Because the heat is not dispersed quickly enough into the cylinder, partly because of the short circuit and partly because of...

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

To answer your questions (and other people's)... Pump is Grundfoss Selectric 15/50, originally set at 3, now set at three as lowering it made no perceivable difference to time taken to reach temp / rad performance / frequency of boiler firing but means the system runs much quieter. Bypass...

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

Selectric 15/50 rings a bell, no idea why it would other than if I'd read the name and numbers before so I think that's what it is. Bypass valve I'll have to check later. It has a red plastic cap that screws on over the top of the valve adjustment part if that helps. We've not had the...

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

Pump is Grundfoss and is red, I don't know the spec without looking at the info panel on it. Yes there is a bypass valve. There is a single mid-pos valve (system is Y-Plan).

Vaillant EcoTec 428 configuration issues for Hot Water Only

In the interests of establishing whether it's likely to be a limitation of the cylinder causing the problem, I attach a couple of pics to possibly identify the age / type. The pic of the immersion heater head is included with the assumption that it's the same age as the cylinder, it may of...
