    TV on party wall -breezeblock

Cheers, one other reason for mounting the tv is i am a new grandfather, at 7 months she isnt toddling yet, but i want the tv mounted out of reach so that she cant tip it onto herself or anything. I may just get currys to mount it or get a tradesman to sort it if blocks might make it more...

    TV on party wall -breezeblock

Thanks, i have no idea if it is brick or block to be honest with you. I just know there was block at the back of the fireplace (but there was brick to the side of that). If it is block, i would assume its concrete as its structural.

    TV on party wall -breezeblock

Hi All, Our new tv is too big for the table we normally have it on and space is an issue- the obvious answer is to mount it on the wall. We have checked with our neighbour to see if he minds us using the party wall (its a semi detached) and he is fine, and he pointed out that due to age he is...

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Fair point above, and the truth is i work for a company that makes equipment for the power industry! so i should be more at home with this stuff Anyway the plasterer came last night- i isolated the circuit and he loosened the front so that he could get in, and when done advised me to tighten...

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

To be honest i have no idea if the electrician did clean the inside of the box after drilling, i just noticed a lot of dust is on the visible surfaces. I also have no idea about plastering/bonding unfortunately. I am not totally useless at everything, i tiled my bathroom and do bits and bobs...

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Yeh the rings look way to big to be protective to be honest, but when i pointed out a fair bit of dust had already gone down those holes the electrician seemed to think i was being daft. I will do as you say and speak to the plasterer. I imagine they have plastered a tonne of these things over...

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Yeh i would have insisted on the circuit being off while being worked on. I know it will seem daft to people here, but i am not comfortable with taking the front plate off myself to be honest. I do some diy now (painting and siliconing etc) but wont go within a mile of electrics, plumbing or...

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Thanks, are the grommets the rings i can see by the cabling? I did ask about the dust i could see in the socket but he said it wouldnt be a problem and was a common thing with rewiring, i think i am just being over anxious I will get the plasterer in, thanks :)

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Just an addendum, we need to refurb the kitchen anyway (replastering and painting) so when he said rerouting the cabling was a better solution than a blanks box on the wall i wasnt fussed. I just need to know if its safe for a plasterer to plaster around live sockets? Thanks.

Making good wall after new electrical sockets

Hi Guys We decided to replace our gas cooker as it is working but ancient, but were told we needed to move the socket as it was above the cooker- fair enough. The electrician completely disconnected everything from the old socket (there is just a hole there now) And rerouted the cabling, he...

Had old gas fire removed, crack behind it in breezeblocks?

Thanks, that is very reassuring, i have spent so much money getting things fixed this year the last thing i wanted was a structural repair I have no idea how long it has been like that, there has been a fire and a decommissioned back boiler there for so many years. This is right at the back of...

Had old gas fire removed, crack behind it in breezeblocks?

We finally got our decommissioned gas fire removed today, big hole in the wall as a result! I noticed there is a vertical crack running up the breeze blocks behind where the gas fire and old back boiler used to sit... , as shown on photo No idea how long its been like this as old gas fire...

Green flux on 18 month old pipe, corrosive?

So basically with the other piccies (showing more green i have found after properly looking) we are still saying the same, nothing to be concerned about- bit of a sloppy job but just clean it? The stuff on the top was thicker, i have cleaned a bit off and the copper just looks a bit black...
