Another solid vs engineered wood floor thread

Personally Rich I wouls say engineered is much better in terms of durability, it will stand up to a lot more than natural hard wood. Cant quite beat that natural hardwood look though. If i was doing mine again i would pick the enginerred stuff to be fair.

Help with repairing creaking floors in flat above!

Mark, the simple way to test if its lath is to twist a small screwdriver through it, if its lath you wont we able to drive it through very easily, wheres with pkasterboard you will (providing you are not hitting a joist), which will be obvious. And yes, removing lath is a nightmare!!! I pulled...

    Are Floors-2-Go any good?

Nothing to worry about at all. If you are happy with the product and laying it yourself your only concern is that its undamaged. Customer service is one thing I wouldnt worry about when laying flooring anyway. If its oak, its oak! I would stay away from saving a few pence and ordering...

Wiring in loft - safe or not?

What a mess! What sort of idiot uses a lighting terminal as a junction box?.......Hes used it because he had one laying around, and probably cant be arsed to source a suitable terminal box, which cost pennies and can be found easily. I wouldnt worry too much but it needs corrective...

is this crack anything to worry about?

Hi Ken, thats become a bit clearer (although im still struggling to understand how bracing the rafter will stop the problem, or in this case reduce any potential).....ill have a think and im sure it will come to me!!!! When you say where the rafters meet the wall head do you mean where they...

is this crack anything to worry about?

Thanks Bernard Just explain because Im not that savvy with roofs. When you say the rafters have moved, do you mean spread apart? If so is it possible that that could have done this? Im assuming the rafters are fixed to the purlin? Its obvious the purlin has not moved because its still...

is this crack anything to worry about?

No bud. Its basically crap thats been disturbed from having the slates removed, Its broken nesting material from birds I think. Id probably be more worried about roots at the top of a chimney stack than this crack to be fair

is this crack anything to worry about?

Hi Ken Its a strange one isnt it. When i moved in the "plaster " was of a rough nature, more sand and cement than todays mix. There was nothing evident then and nothing 10 years later. The purlin obviosly sits inbound of the wall so im unable to ascertain wether it rests on the party wall...
