Ahh cheers for the explanation, it's always nice to know the logic behind things like this. I'm totally at ease with massive server farms yet the plumbing in my house is like some arcane black magic to me! :lol:

Pressure was at 1, 1.25 and 1.5 bar (tried it at several levels) Yup, bled the pump. UPDATE: All sorted. I followed a recommendation to put the pressure up to 2.5 bar and flip the boiler back and forth between heating and test modes to keep the pump going. And it only went and worked...
