I have lights :-)
On the bottom right box there was a 30A fuse which I could not budge.
Gave up with that and tried switching the 2 white carriers around - lights work!!
Looking carefully could see that the fuse had broken just next to the screw - me originally I had...
The 2 additional boxes are:
The far left behind the vacuum is for the electric shower (or so it say's!).
The one next to that has 2 fuses in, one for the imerrsion heater (the unit which is no longer around following the fitting of a combi) and 1 spare.
The 2 white ones both have 5 amp wire in them - running from 1 screw, through the middle and then to another screw.
At least I now know what a 'carrier' is :-)

I know that's bad but ever since I bought the house it has always been like this!!
Even when I had a new combi boiler fitted about 6 months ago the guy mentioned it, but as it's always been like this (with wire through it) I've left as is.

My thought was that there must be a fuse somewhere for the lights - but if this was the case should the fuse not have blown before the light bulb?

Hi all - some advise if possible on this one:
Flicked the light switch to on in the hallway and one of the candle bulbs shattered and all of the power went off - quickly flicked the switch to off!
Looking under the stairs the main trip switch was 'off'.
Removed the remaining...
