fitted porch lamp, now internal lamp doesn't work (what coul

THANKS EVERYONE - It was exactly that, an extra brown wire in the ceiling void, there was a rubber grommet that the wires pass through into the light fitting, it was quite a tight fit and the light was flush to the ceiling, so it hadnt come through when I refitted it. Took the fitting off...

fitted porch lamp, now internal lamp doesn't work (what coul

Just rechecked all the wires into the light fitting and they are all definitely in place - where might the loose blue/neutral wire be?

fitted porch lamp, now internal lamp doesn't work (what coul

which terminal might the neutral be broken in, and is there a way to check? I can use a multimeter (eg to check there was 240v, then 0v when I had isolated the circuit at the fuse box? AQlso would that be the case if the new porch light works fine?

I did drill a hole to put in a rawplug, so possible I hit something, is there an easy way to check? The earth wire is just 1 earth in 1 sleeve, not 3?

fitted porch lamp, now internal lamp doesn't work (what coul

I can't see the cables now I've refitted the new light, other than the 6 individual cables coming thru the hole (I cant remember if it was 2 or 3 groups of canbles?) - I had put all the fitting back and it covered them up -I could try and take it all down, do you think I've somehow missed a...

fitted porch lamp, now internal lamp doesn't work (what coul

[size=6]I have a porch light with a built in PIR. I have just replaced it with exactly the same light fitting (so nothing could go wrong!). It had 3 blue wires coming into the lamp fitting (one of these had brown tape on), 2 brown wires, 1 earth. On the old fitting, the 2 blue wires from...

    Patching Silicon seal?

I had a new bathroom 12 months ago. We had a couple of leaks from the shower, which the plumber has come back to. Last time he resealed the tray. We have another leak, I think there is a corner where the silicon has a gap/ and or the tray has shifted slightly? It is quite small but...

    Boiler Pressure Puzzle

It was a complete system (new boiler, new pipework etc). I do think it's a leak in the pipes, but given how much is being lost (1-2 pints a day was suggested by the Vaillant engineer?) I'm surprised it isn't creating a knock on effect on either flooring or ceilings - Is that really possible...

    Boiler Pressure Puzzle

I have a Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 937 Power Store system. It was installed in May as part of a house rebuild (detached 4 bed house, 1 bathroom, 1 Ensuite, 1 cloakroom). Since the heating has been used (October onwards), the boiler loses pressure and needs daily refilling (pressure drops from 2.0...

New or reclaimed bricks & tiles for my extension?

Thanks Richard - the idea about swapping tiles sounds a cute move which I'll discuss with my builder.

Am I chosing the right boiler/system?

So which system, in your professional opinion, is most suited to the house, the 937 combi system+2(?) Siemens REV23 room stats, or the Ecotec Plus 600 + Unistor cyclinder + 2 REV23 stats?

Am I chosing the right boiler/system?

Thanks for the advice on the combi - I had assumed that the advice from my chosen builder to go for a combi was the right one, although one of the builders who originally quoted for the work suggested using a megaflow system, so I'm now wondering which is the right system to go for. Is a...

Am I chosing the right boiler/system?

Hi, I'm about to commence a major refurb/extension on our recently acquired 1950's home. The work will include replacing the 25 yr old boiler/hw tank and single bathroom in the existing house. If all goes to plan we will have a new system providing GCH/HW to a largish 4 bed house (2100sq...

New or reclaimed bricks & tiles for my extension?

Hi - I'm having an extension built in the next 3 months (planning etc all agreed and builders selected). The extension will increase the house size by c 50% and will affect 2/3 of the existing frontage. The house is a 1950s build and I want to ensure the extension looks as natural as possible...
