TBC, I'm only assuming the tiles are onto the plasterboard, I don't know anything about this stuff, but the ensuite was done by the previous owners at considerable cost (it's a very high standard, lucky us!) so assume they'd have done a proper backboard systems which is tanked and waterproofed...
