i changed the whole valve and yes it does work. it is a reconditioned one. the holes are about 3-4mm.

no it's ok i've sorted it!!! but... ...now the water takes a while to heat up. it gets nice and hot then the gas goes out and it goes cold again. it hovers between 18 and 35 degrees for about 3 mins then the boiler fires up and it gets hot again for a short while then back down again...

i didn't realise there was two. there seem to be a number of valves under the boiler. i tried all of them but they didn't do anything. i'm sure i returned them to their original position

but the heating works fine and the pump is working.

i just replaced my diverter valve on my boiler. after finally locating my refill loop valve i refilled the boiler to a pressure of around 1.5. the radiators work fine as do the cold water taps but no water at all comes out of the hot taps or shower.
