    sealing/painting a pond

some images attached. Not sure what the sealer/paint is. Ideally would like to simply go over the top of it rather than remove it.

    sealing/painting a pond

3 ponds in all. two are around 8ft long by 4ft wide and then one small one about 2X2ft. Yes maybe using the same stuff again is a good idea - any idea what brand/ type - link? I think it has actually been around 40 years that the other stuff has been on for, so it obviously works.

    sealing/painting a pond

The fibreglass is in a bad condition and split in various places, so I was thinking of going over the whole thing with a new sealant but thought I may need to rip it all off and start again on the concrete. ?

    sealing/painting a pond

Hi. The ponds at my mums house are leaking and I was going to try and clean out and re-seal over the summer. First: They are concrete with some sort of painted fibreglass (?) sealant. (which is leaking) This is at least 30 years old. Do I remove all this first or simply go over over it with a...

    Best way to remove weeds/garden

Easiest way to sort it out given you have no back alley access. Get a tarp or a load of old carpet (freecycle) cover the area until early next year. take the coverings off in jan/feb and dig the whole garden over taking out all the weeds/roots/debris - you'd be surprised how little...

Old Ponds - sorting them out!

Two ponds in garden that are leaking badly. Think last time they were treated was around 15 years ago. they have some sort of green fibreglass/plastic coating (?) A couple of questions.... Do I need to strip this green covering off to the concrete below? What is best sort of...

Victorian bannister & spindles - taking out & puttin

The idea of stripping over 100 spindles in place is more scary to me than trying to remove them & get them dipped.....

Painting internal fireplace and hearth prior to wood burner

Sounds ok to me. Probably would use water based paint myself, but if your ok about touching up I guess it will work. With the floor I would just mix up a little cement & fill in as you would do plaster filling & then sand & paint. keep it simple.

    How to get round this

If your going to re-paint the wood on the stairs then why not use a stripper solution & then a quick sand down. - Mask off the edges to protect the woodchip.

Victorian bannister & spindles - taking out & puttin

I'd like to completely strip the victorian staircase in my house. I've done most of the actual stairs & sides however I'd like to do the bannister & spindles as well. It would make sense to me (?!) to have the spindles dipped & then replace them. has anyone got any experience of taking the...

    Insulating floors in victorian house

John, thanks. there are airbricks in both cellar rooms & one down the far end under the kitchen crawl space. I keep them clean of dirt. yes the plaster is old/lime/horsehair type stuff. & I was planning on packing between the joists as you mentioned, but other posters seem to think this...

thanks for the advice, but can anyone advise on my original question about stopping the draught/cold coming up from the cellar through the floorboards.

    Insulating floors in victorian house

Thanks for replying- yes there are some cables between the joists, but these can be re-routed relatively easily as they are all "loose" - cheers I didn't know that. yes there is a little damp in the cellar, nothing too bad, but it does attract some mildew(?) and white fungus type growths...

    Insulating floors in victorian house

After a bit of advice or comments on what I'm thinking of doing: Recently bought a large victorian terrace that hasn't been touched for a good few years. There's a sizeable draught coming up through the ground level floors. The house has a double cellar & a crawl space at the back end...
