I was talking about Plumb Centre.. Is that the same as Parts Centre?
I have had a fully qualified plumber round, he figured it out and we're waiting on a part. I did say this already. I wanted to let you know that all was okay and there's nothing to worry about anymore, all being fixed next...
dont worry, im not! im buying the part (plumber is busy and this'll get things moving quicker - although not in stock anywhere so weve got to wait til mid-week to get it) and he's coming to fit it once its arrived!
after the boiler taken to bits it turns out its the gas valve? picking up new one from plumb centre tomorrow (anyone got tips on best place to get in SW London? Honeywell VR4601C) and hopefully have heat by mid afternoon..
very hard to type with gloves on!
i wasnt going for the chepeast way but the best guess at what the problem was and the one i could possibly fix today. our house is freezing so it was worth a try!
thanks for the tips guys. no chance taking the motor back (i had to take off the clips at the end of the leads and join wire to wire with those plastic cover things that are included)..
im not good enough with this stuff to do the multimeter thing and even if i figured out what the problem...
changed the motor but it didnt make any difference...
so strange.. heat was dead yesterday AM so i checked everything i knew how; bled radiators, turned everything off and on again, played the thermostat temp, checked the pump (which was only replaced itself 3 months ago) and it had no air in...
so the motors are a pretty universal fit then?
thats what i was going to try first as its the thing i should be able to do myself before having to call in the experts.. if it doesnt work and i need a whole new valve (or something else) then ive only lost £15...
I'd really like to pick one...
or should i be replacing the whole motorised valve and not just the motor? can i do that without removing any pipe work and having to drain the system etc?
the honeywell motorised valve (model no: V4043H1056) is only working in manual mode so i figure the motor needs replacing. I've not done this before but think its quite straight forward??
couple of questions -
1) what motor am I looking for? whats the model number etc so i make sure and...
you might have solved this for me! i went to the consumer unit and found something was 'off' - i turned it back on and the next mornig we had a lot more hot water than previously! I'm going to keep monitoring this for a while and see what happens but this could have been the answer all along...
but if i leave both the bottom and top immersion switches both on will that cancel either out? ie could the top one being on stop the bottom one from working?
when you say "consumer unit" you mean..?
the button doesnt seem to pop out either though so ive just guessed if it needs resetting and pressed it!
i moved the lever to the right a bit in the hope it would help somehow... it doesnt seem to have any numbers on it to judge what temp its at (should it? i might have to get back in there...
i cant find a red button under the lower grey plastic cover... there is a blue arrow that can be moved left and right (im assuming to adjust the temp?) and a tiny hole with a blue button behind it that, according to the manual, can be pressed (with a pencil or something) to reset the cylinder...
