    LED Downlighting with Dimmers

Hi all I'm on a quest to reduce my electric bills, and one of the bigger ones is definitely going to be switching my house over to LED bulbs. On that note I have a few questions. I have had a look about and want to make sure I get current info so bear with me if some of these questions have...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

I dunno, my flat is a basement so its still bloody cold. Either that or i've gone soft from living in the south too long :D

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Just to finish the thread, the company I used turned out to be perfectly proficient, so I was happy with the service I received. I was given lots of helpful advice about that and the other questions I sprang on him. He knew everything about my boiler set up as well as the history of my...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Thanks Dan, I'm glad you are busy and it probably means you're a great person to have got the work done with. These chaps can come this evening, so with any luck it will be all up and running in no time. Will be in touch if I need something subsequently though Best, Joe

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Thanks Alec. Not really bad luck as much as £150 quid down the drain for 5 minutes of someone's time who learnt how to use a multimeter and a screwdriver (and did a test to prove it) - yes i'm being flippant, I realise there is more to it than that (if we want to do more than just install the...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

cross posted with your reply. Thats what I feared, no neutral connection at the old (honeywell) thermostat electrical box. So does it have to be power coming from the boiler, or any 240v would work? Since we're just powering the heat link itself not the switch/live for the heating system

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

@dan yep, i intend to run the nest user control off the USB power supply (supplied) so thats gonna just stand alone in a separate room. No issue there THe heat link on the other hand requires mains. So either a) the connections I have right now could be be 240vac and therefore is probably...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Was gonna put the heat link where the honeywell was (which is in the entrance hallway), and the Nest circular bit in the living room, on the wall as described in the docs Figured that would cause minimal disruption and there would be all the things it would need there, given it is kind of the...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

OK, I realise, a professional has many overheads and expenses that come as part of the job. That's not really what I'm saying though. The rate is fair enough for the job it is. I also work in a technical industry that no-one on the outside really understands how it works (internet tech). I just...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Thanks Dan and Dean Just seems like a lot of cash for 2 wires to get connected. If it's more than that, then yes, a professional install will be the only answer since I'm not certified to do anything else with the electrics or gas systems. If it can be worked out in 30 seconds by them...

Help with Nest install replacing Honeywell DT90E Thermostat

Thanks Dan I don't intend to go poking around in the boiler itself, thats for sure. Dean's advise was regarding plugging mains into the Nest control unit (the round bit) which I was never planning to do (my mistake in the original post). Here's my Honeywell with the fascia removed I...
