2 storey extension - is this brickwork ok?

That sounds awful. Not helpful now obviously but none of the ways that you assessed your builder would have reassured me. For a project like that I would have wanted to see a large number of reviews and taken a look at as many of their previous projects and tried to speak to as many of their...

2 storey extension - is this brickwork ok?

I agree there is really no protection for the home owner. I wouldn’t say its quite the same as being a consumer in other circumstances. As you can see building work always involves things that go wrong in one way or another. No large project like that would not have any mistakes at all. Its just...

2 storey extension - is this brickwork ok?

Brick tinting is an idea but in my opinion won’t work on a multi or wire cut brick. But who knows. Maybe. I was going to say that Mrs S might have noticed the two different colours of bricks before or as they were being layed and advised her builder accordingly. If she was told that they would...

New build drywall visible joint lines

I’ve found that dust is quite hard going on a hoover. It clogs the bags or filters because its so fine and there will be a lot of dust. But I agree it’ll work. Belt and braces plug in a fume extractor and go through the house with a blower after wards whilst fume extractor still switched on and...

2 storey extension - is this brickwork ok?

I think the benefit of going down the legal route is that it helps the builders to come to terms with the mistake that has been made and gives them a chance to reflect on it too. It also allows them to put forwards any reasons for it. As well as that it will help make sure that they don’t do it...

batten and overboard a ceiling for skim

Once all the old plaster is knocked off the joists there’s a load of ways of getting a flat ceiling. Just youtube it.

batten and overboard a ceiling for skim

I agree with above. I am just. DIYer but I’d take all the old plaster down first leaving the bare joists. Adding plasterboard only adds to the weight and makes the ceiling sag more.

New build drywall visible joint lines

Yes, wow, thats awful. I mean I guess we all have to learn. But it just gets worse. You’d think they’d have got the hang of it after a couple of walls. Its not that hard really. Whoever actually did those walls doesn’t even have youtube. I’d maybe sand the joints flat but its a hell of lot of mess.

    Advice on Upstairs Floor Joists

Just a guess, but if your ceiling and floor are still flat after however many years i am thinking it must be sufficient.

That looks like more than pallet variation. The lower half is orange/multi and the upper part is red/multi. I’ve never seen a newly built house wall look like that. Its complete nonsense. How on earth did your builder not notice lol. I think if whoever built that isn’t acknowledging the problem...

    Joist hangers at wrong height

This seemed to work ok and didn’t mean taking all the nails out to raise the hanger.

2 storey extension - is this brickwork ok?

To be honest some bricks are obviously quite a different colour. In my opinion thats more than a normal variation between pallets. What a shame. I wonder how nobody noticed as it was being built. Surely the brick layers would have noticed. I guess you can’t always match bricks between an...

    Joist hangers at wrong height

I can’t get a photo right now. Similar to above but with joists hung lower than header. Header beam is 2 ply 9x2 beam bolted together and runs perpendicular to and above old ceiling joists. Joists are 7x2 and hung about 3 inches lower than header to run between and parallel to old ceiling...
