    Temperature monitoring and legionella

So in the end I've partly solved it simply by getting a new thermostat in the immersion heater. This is supposed to go up to 65, but doesn't really go above about 58. This difference could be accounted for by the difference between the pocket temperature and the actual water temperature. But I'm...

    Destratification pump for horizontal cylinder

OK, how about this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/JASSFERRY-Central-Heating-Automatic-Circulation/dp/B09TNJVKZQ It doesn't appear to be bronze, but it does say it's suitable for showers (which is the same water as I'd be pumping), as do many of them. p.s. I've ordered an 18" immersion too to see if...

    Destratification pump for horizontal cylinder

OK yes - the external diameter is 20", so internally it will be less, but yes, maybe it can fit an 18" rather than 14". I'm just slightly conscious about ignoring the manufacturer's explicit instructions on this... Certainly I'll see what happens with a longer immersion before looking at the...

    Destratification pump for horizontal cylinder

Yes, the immersion has its own rod thermostat. It's a solar tank, and the main coil comes from my Air Source Heat Pump. This heats it uniformly. The immersion is only a top-up, and because it operates at lower currents, is good for utilising surplus solar. But the immersion currently only...

    Destratification pump for horizontal cylinder

Top = side! It's on the side if the cylinder was vertical, but since it's on it's side, it's on the top. The top according to gravity. On the curvy bit. Am I making this clearer? See attachment the immersion is close to the hot water outlet and thermostat. The cold comes in on the far...

    Destratification pump for horizontal cylinder

Hi, if like to add a destratification pump to my Telford invented horizontal cylinder so that I can heat more water using surplus solar with the top mounted immersion heater. I can fit a tee to the outgoing 22mm hot water with non return valves to the incoming cold supply. Can anyone...

100% amazing. One day I'll get my head around this and do it!

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

It definitely draws power below 50 degrees and stops above what I now think may be something between 58-63 degrees. It's supposed to go up to 65, but having discovered and adjusted the setting on the immersion, and had confirmation that the dry pocket is up to 4-5 degrees inaccurate I'm now...

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

Update: I managed to get a reading of 58 degrees! Perhaps the thermostat on the immersion was not fully in the max position previously. Telford are saying that the maximum should be 65, but given that the pocket temperature could be 4-5 degrees out, we're getting closer to the magic 65...

Horizontally. It's a horizontal cylinder. So yes, I assume that a probe a foot away horizontally across the top of the tank would not require a de-strat pump to be accurate.

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

Top drawer pedantry. Wall thickness and internal vs external diameter are indeed things I hand't accounted for. Reminder to self: there is always a smarter person. Wait what? This sounds amazing! A quick search for "168 hour timer" has yeilded no useful search results though. Do you have a link...

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

OK, here it is. This is the immersion. And in this (which I assume is the highest thermostat position, it stops heating at about 53-55 degrees. Is this normal? I will contact Thermowatt. As I say, whilst legionella may not be so much of a worry (although it's still slightly disconcerting I...

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

I did, and they said 4-5 degrees which is consistent with everything else. This is the conclusion I was coming to and exactly what I needed to know. This thermostat is what I believe is the issue. It's way too low IMHO. Via a salt softener, but otherwise yes. This is very reassuring. Thank...

    Temperature monitoring and legionella

Thanks. The thermal paste and advice to find out the delta are great ideas. And the advice on peaking Vs maintaining is also reassuring. It's already set at 2am on a Sunday. But I still have an issue that it stops heating before the timer period (or before the boost timer) before reaching...
