Actually - could it be caused by the massive overlap of each row? When wet, you can see like they overlap each other in the middle of each sheet, instead of at the edges..
That would make sense - the question then is, is this likely to pose a problem over the next 10-15 years or can it be ignored? The aerial photos make the wrinkles look much bigger than they are. When I'm kneeling on the roof, I can barely see them.
Hi everyone.
I have a flat roof shared with the neighbour (semi detached). The whole roof was covered in felt at the time of installation decades ago and I wanted our side replaced (neighbour not interested in spending money replacing hers). The roofers (who did a great job on our tiled roof...
Update: 2 weeks ago I got the plumber back. He installed a pipe to raise the valve by an additional 300mm, so it’s well above the water line. No more smells! Even around the valve in the box, the smell has gone. Thanks to you all for your advice, it really helped.
Ah that’s it, thanks. Doesn’t look like it raises 200mm above toilet level, so I guess a pipe will have to be fitted to the top and then the AAV on top of that.
Yeah this link says 200mm https://www.drainagepipe.co.uk/soil-and-waste/how-to-use-an-air-admittance-valve/
What about the risk of flooding? I don’t want to pay the plumber to replace this, but I don’t want to risk a leak or be in contravention of building regs and invalidate my home insurance.
This is the valve that is attached to the stack in the box - it replaced the old one which had failed and had to be cut off - the FloPlast AF110G:

So are you saying it’s fine to have this valve only 8cm above...
I've contacted the plumber. Told him to rip the whole thing out and put a new one in which is at least 30cm above the handbasin. He's coming out on Wednesday to do it. Thanks for the advice, guys.
Is it not above the highest spillover? It is a little bit above the soil pipe (coming from toilet). It was about 10cm higher when we moved in, but he had to cut the broken AAV off and attached the current one.
The former owners did not push it through the roof as it’s in the conservatory...
Hi all,
We have a downstairs bathroom which since we moved in 6 months ago, has an intermittent methane/sewer smell. The toilet is not connected to the main soil pipe, as this toilet was installed at the back of the house after the upstairs one. The waste pipe is in the room behind, boxed in...
