I tried spray stuff on a radiator recently and it was rubbish. Had to sand it all off and start again with a tin of paint and a brush. Apart from anything else, the spray stuff gets everywhere - you have to cover all around where you're painting. I'm guessing this would be pretty hard to do on a staircase. So, if I were you I'd stick to a brush and a tin.

You might get more response if you ask the mods to move this to the Painting and Decorating discussion.

If any of the mods actually bothered reading any of the threads they'd have moved it by now!

Use some knotting on all the knots. Would be nice to keep the handrails clean and stain them. Mask off allareas that need to be kept paint free. Use a hvlp High Volume, low Presure spray, these can be hired from the hire shops quite cheap for the weekend.
They do give good results and as they are low volume.
Apollo were always good manafacturers of these. I v'e used these on site for years and they are great.

thanks for the replies guys, robbie thats exactly how she wants it you done a top job there . how many coats was that 4 ?

Primer , undercoat, then two gloss. If you were doing it in satinwood then you probably get away with three coats.

To be honest it was done with a brush, i can be quite quick when i want to be. I have used the spray on such things though but sometimes its just as quick to use a brush rather than mask everything up.
