Hi guys, i have put a wash basin in but the outlet is leaking. I have bedded the metal outlet which came with the basin in plumbers mate, tightened up the nut underneath with pump pliers but there is still a trickle of water. I suspect that the water is leaking through the two overflow holes in the metal outlet. Has it ever happened to you or is it just me  Thank you for your advice.

Plumbers mait is hideous stuff, I'm yet to come across a plumber who actually uses it on a regular basis, in the real world it's not all that useful. I do admit to owning a tub of it, but I've had the same tub for five years and used probably a third of it.

I would bed it in with silicone, and you need a good bead around the waste hole on the underside of the basin around the waste fitting before you screw the backnut on, otherwise the water will track around the threads and you'll get a leak.

Hi guys and thanks a lot for your replies. 1) Would the basin mate replace the backnut? 2) i suppose the white part of basin mate goes side up? Sorry for the stupid question...i have never seen one of those before.

i installed a twyford a while back, the thing was like a sieve, what it might be is that the outlet is not completely flush with the basin, the only way ive found is silicone it well
